Ausvet Europe: Consultant – Epidemiological information systems

THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL IT IS FILLED.

• CDI – Permanent full-time position
• Salary range 45,000 € to 55,000 € gross per annum, based on skills and experience
• One Health epidemiology consulting company
• Position based in Lyon, France. Must be able to work in France.
• Excellent English communication skills essential
• Design and develop surveillance and other epidemiological information systems

Ausvet is seeking an epidemiologist with a passion for developing and using epidemiological information systems. An important part of our work involves developing and implementing information systems to capture, manage, analyse and report on disease and other associated information. Using epidemiological, sociological and IT skills, our systems focus on the needs of field users, providing epidemiologically rigorous analysis supported by the latest technical innovations. We aim to improve the health and wellbeing of populations, whether human or animals, measured in the tens or hundreds of millions, efficiently and sustainably.

Our work is made possible by a relatively rare breed of passionate cross-over experts – sociologists who understand disease surveillance, IT developers who can get inside the heads of small holder farmers in low- and middle-income countries, and you – an epidemiologist who loves IT.

You are a trained infectious disease epidemiologist with a deep interest in surveillance and epidemiological data, quantitative analysis and a delight in how, with good data and good analysis, it is possible find solutions to otherwise intractable problems.

When studying you often felt that the tools you were provided with weren’t quite fit for purpose, and that the available data was frustratingly inadequate. You knew that it was possible to do better, and as a result, taught yourself how to use available technology to meet your needs – programming languages, databases, flexible analysis and visualisation tools, cloud-based systems.

You will be working as part of an international team including about 15 epidemiologists, 7 software developers and system architects, as well as experts in sociology and statistics, and a strong support team. If you are the right person for the job, you’ll be constantly learning and challenged, revelling in being able to combine your two favourite subjects – epidemiology and technology. And, if that’s not enough, you’ll also be saving the planet, supporting our work in poverty reduction, helping prepare for and detect emerging diseases, improving the efficiency of protein production and decreasing the world’s carbon footprint, and supporting food security.
