Ausvet is an agile, private epidemiology consulting company with offices in Australia (Canberra, and Fremantle, near Perth) and France (Lyon). Established for over 20 years, Ausvet is growing rapidly and has a dynamic team of 30 technical and corporate staff. We have a passion for complex epidemiological challenges, finding innovative solutions and making the world a better place. We work around the globe on diverse projects, seeking to improve the health and wellbeing of people, terrestrial and aquatic animals, and plants, through applied epidemiology. Our team conducts epidemiological data analyses; disease control and eradication program design, implementation and evaluation; animal and public health policy review and analysis; health information system design and implementation; biosecurity system design; disease surveillance; training; outbreak investigation and response; design and analysis of trials; risk analyses; and more. Our clients include governments, international organisations, major global donors supporting health and development initiatives, and the private sector. Our public health projects span global health security, infectious disease elimination initiatives, antimicrobial use and resistance, and more.

The consultant is responsible for applying their skills to achieve defined project and business outcomes. Working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders, the consultant undertakes a range of project activities including the development of projects, the provision of expert and timely advice, guidance and support on epidemiological issues, and monitoring and evaluation throughout the project life cycle. Through the application of high-level analytical and conceptual skills, the consultant undertakes complex data management and epidemiological data analysis tasks and contributes to the development of effective processes and systems. The consultant also undertakes tasks relating to delivering training and general epidemiology consulting.

The specific position tasks and responsibilities for this role include:


  • Under the direction of project leaders, undertake project activities to ensure achievement of defined business objectives.
  • Undertake project-related data management and analysis tasks.
  • Conduct research and literature reviews.
  • Produce high-quality reports on milestones/end of project deliverables.
  • Undertake training and general consulting tasks.
  • Provide timely, effective and expert services to Ausvet clients, encouraging repeat business.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and end-users.
  • Actively partner, communicate and support senior consultant/s on projects.
  • Working away from home base (including overseas) as required.

To be considered for this position, you will need to have enthusiasm for improving health at a population level, an aptitude for problem solving and be willing to travel. Hands-on practical experience in delivering or improving health services (for example through workforce training, monitoring and evaluation or research) is highly valued. You will require an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and additional qualifications in epidemiology, public health or related disciplines. You must have a desire to further your skills and be prepared to strive to deliver innovative, high quality work.

The salary offered is based on comparable levels for scientists in a university or government setting. As these positions are in Canberra, Fremantle and Lyon, the successful candidate will need to have citizenship or the appropriate work visa to be employed either in Australia or France.
